How pet insurance differs from human insurance:
1) You pay all costs to your veterinarian up front—pet insurance will reimburse you directly, not the veterinarian.
2) You file the forms yourself (if the veterinarian needs to fill anything out, please bring the forms to your appointment.)
3) Policies are all different, some cover wellness i.e., vaccinations, routine surgeries & heartworm flea/tick meds, some are strictly emergency, and some are full coverage. It is important to understand what your pet’s policy covers.
4) If your pet is uninsured and gets injured or ill, there is a waiting period (usually 2 weeks) for most insurance coverage, so it is best to get insurance when they are young and have no pre-existing conditions.
